V4 Update #7: Template management, versioning and visual comparison tool

14

Welcome to the seventh in a series of Version 4 development updates and previews.

In preview #6 we looked at file transfers and screenshot sharing in the operator’s live chat application.

In this preview we will take a look at some of the new template management and cosmetic customization features we are introducing to V4.

Template and interface management

Like in V3, client-facing layouts are stored in the database as templates. These templates are editable via the administrator control panel, as shown below. Cosmetic modifications and layout customizations can be made with knowledge of basic CSS and HTML.

We will be adopting a new third-party templating engine called Dwoo to handle template code and logic. Dwoo is very similar to what V3 uses (TemplateLite), so there won’t be a steep learning curve for customers moving from V3 to V4. The syntax is simple, and mixes cleanly with HTML and CSS.

V4 Update #6: Live screenshot sharing and file transfers in live chat

Welcome to the sixth in a series of Version 4 development updates and previews.

In preview #5 we looked at staff management, group management, the new permissions interface and an interface screencast.

In this preview we’ll take a look at two completely new innovations we are introducing in V4: screen capture sharing and live file transfers during a live chat session.

File transfers in a live chat session

Operators can now send files to chatters in a live chat session.  The file transfer is proxied by the server on which your support desk is hosted. The file is securely uploaded to the server from your computer, and then a link to the file is sent to the end user. This makes for a completely seamless user experience.

V4 Update #5: Staff, user, permissions management, interface screencast, roadmap revisions

Welcome to the fifth in a series of Version 4 development updates and previews.

In preview #4, we looked at the live chat interface and visitor engagement options. In this preview, we will look a little closer at the administrator control panel interface, the redesigned grid layout interface, staff, permissions and department management and we will finish off with a short screencast which walks you briefly through what we will cover in this preview.

Roadmap revisions

In July of this year, we published our roadmap estimates for the development and release of V4. Today we are making some revisions to our roadmap:

  • Q4: Pricing and licensing details to be discussed and finalized (unchanged)
  • Late Q4/Early Q1: Partner previews, initial API publication (was Q3)
  • Q1: Public BETA (was Q4)
  • Late Q1/Q2: Final release (was Q1)

As always, we hope we can deliver each earlier than anticipated.

However, we are a small team working on fantastic new additions to the product line. We are also committed to proposing and previewing new features to customers, incorporating feedback into the products even late in the development process. We want to keep things flexible, and this is sometimes at the expense of deadlines – which is why we are still calling this new roadmap an estimate, issued for your guidance.

We very much appreciate your patience and overwhelming feedback, and we are sure that you can appreciate our efforts made to keep you informed and our process open.

V4 Update #4: A look at the new live chat interface and engagement options

Welcome to the fourth in a series of Version 4 development updates and previews.

Following up on preview #3 (where we looked at the operator’s desktop application), this preview takes a look at the new end-user live chat interface, revised visitor engagement options and a new HTTP streaming option.

New visitor engagement options

Engagement options in the operator's desktop application

In V3, there were two proactive visitor engagement options – “Forced” and “Invitation”.

The “Forced” option popped up a new chat window and immediately connected the visitor to the operator.

The “Invitation” option opened an in-line invitation window inviting the user to a chat, with “Chat Now” and “Close” buttons.

We have replaced these with two new engagement options:

  • Engage (on-page invitation)
  • In-line (on-page chat window)

Both of these new engagement options have been engineered to be popup blocker friendly. Both are demonstrated below. Read More »

Welcome to the third in a series of Version 4 development updates and previews.

Following from preview #2 (where we looked at live chat logic and automations), this preview takes a first look at the new, redesigned desktop operators’ application. Because there is a lot to cover, we will spread out the preview of the desktop application over a few postings.

Today we’ll take a look at:

  • The interface in general
  • Multiple account support
  • Panes
