Kayako V4 beta progress report

Lately, things have been a little quiet on the blog front.

That’s because we are all working feverishly on the Kayako V4 project – continuing to add features and improve existing ones, fixing bugs, running through all of the feedback we have received and having great discussions with customers.

We have been absolutely floored by the positive response and amount of feedback we have received about V4 – it is completely unprecedented. We knew our customers were excited about Kayako V4, but we never expected this number of customers to jump in feet-first.

In just 23 days:

  • More than 3200 posts have been made on the forum and blog.
  • More than 1000 discussions have been started on our forums and helpdesk.
  • More than 100 installations have been switched on.

What’s new?

  • Around 200 bugs fixed.
  • Template group support has been added.
  • Our new LoginShare API has been added and documented (with an LDAP connector in progress).
  • We have extended the beta documentation on the Wiki and have started publishing change logs there too.
  • Our project tracker is now publicly available, so that you can keep in-the-loop on issues and feature improvements you have raised
  • A dedicated V4 Beta support department has been created, and for a faster turnaround time, we’re asking all customers to raise tickets for any issues they run into.

How stable is beta, should I join in?

The numbers do the talking best: Almost 100 organizations are using Kayako V4 beta live, right now, to support their customers. Many more are testing V4 beta behind the scenes.

We encourage you to get into beta, try it and tell us what you think. We are sure you’ll be impressed, and we would love your feedback.

Where do I get beta?

The beta package is still available from my.kayako.com. Use your members’ area email address and password to log in.

Where can I provide feedback?

We have set up a special V4 beta forum for V4 questions and suggestions. If you run into any problems using V4 or think you’ve found a bug, please submit a ticket to V4 beta on my.kayako.com.

What next?

V4 is really taking shape; we are anticipating a stable launch in a matter of weeks. Until then, we’ll be continuing to push out new features (such as the troubleshooter module) every few days and will soon be publishing our user and developer documentation on the Wiki.

Because of the size of our organization, we're not able to implement any software marked as BETA, however, we've started putting V4 through a rigorous testing process and we have been extremely impressed with the level of quality that the Kayako team has delivered. In my experience, beta=broken, however, Kayako is proving me wrong!

    Well done Team!

      Thanks, Tony!

I use Kayako for my business. I need a stable version than beta. I will wait more for stable version.

I thought we were ready to use the latest version but found a new set of problems stopping us from going live. Email not work getting an error, and list tickets is core dumping :(
Oh well maybe we will cut over on another weekend.

It sure looks good though! Can't wait to get all of the little bugs fixed!

good job , but staff and admin panel localization still not cmplted on beta! it seems that it dose not use langouge files in local/en-us and it dose not change if you replace any string in there.

    We switch to V4.
Oh yeah, great job guys, really.

We are using V4 with a small group of our staff and users, it’s not quiet ready for us to go live for the whole company but with the almost daily builds being updated I’m sure it wont be long. Keep up the great work guys, really excited about this.

    Question for you Jamie:
Will we be allowed to operate our own Kayako Onsite Relay servers?
And will we be able to seperate Onsite and provide it as a seperate entity? (Aka providing users with a link somewhere that opens up a session WITHOUT them having to open up a chat session or a button that generates a dynamic link we can give out)

    • Anonymous

Yes you will – we’ll be providing the server daemon too

  • Kayako Fan

I like Luc’s idea here. This would be very benificial to us as well.

How close is the Beta to an RC? It’s been 1 month since the last blog post, had hoped for some more feedback.

    • Anonymous

We have released nearly 20 new builds since beta launch, and responded to oodles of feedback on the forum: http://forums.kayako.com/f202/ – 700 discussions

      • Enrise

That’s not really an answer ;-)

It was in reply to “had hoped for some more feedback”.

There isn’t anything to gain by publishing an arbitrary time limit on the beta period, so we’re not going to do it.

We are monitoring the volume of feedback received during beta and the magnitude of problems reported vs. what we are processing and in what length of time.

RC or even stable will be released when we feel that the product and platform is sufficient and stable enough for the majority of our customers. To appease eager customers (and we’re glad people are eager), we give rough estimates.

That’s the best we can achieve – anything else will be plucked out of thin air and will therefore be fairly unreliable.

“we are anticipating a stable launch in a matter of weeks”

    Any certain time limits? :)

    • Anonymous

      No, but we’re almost there!

    Any news about 4.0?

  • http://www.beaverjournal.com Benjamin Kerensa

A matter of weeks has passed basically they were making a guess because V4 is along ways off according to their sales team.

    • Anonymous

This isn’t the case – the release V4 is not along way off

  • http://twitter.com/cissav Вадим Кысса

That’s bad… I hope they will write soon correct info about V4 launch.

    • http://www.beaverjournal.com Benjamin Kerensa

They can see these comments… they choose not to respond…

So, just choose it if you like it.
