I used to wonder what the point in Twitter was or whether or not it had any real use for a company like ours. What problem, market gap or niche does Twitter fill?

Necessity is the supposed mother of invention. I wonder who sat down and said: “I need a way to broadcast 140 byte messages to the Internet.” (It was probably the same person who decided that sending 160 character messages was a best use of a mobile phone, which could otherwise be used to talk to people thousands of miles away!)

Whether or not Twitter has a ‘point’ for us as individuals, I think that Twitter will be a really useful tool for Kayako and you. We will use Twitter to:

  • Reinforce a our growing blog and forum community
  • Aggregate activity notifications in one place (we’ll be posting updates to Twitter when we make important announcements, useful blog posts or spot a useful thread on the forum)
  • Converse with our customers
  • Gather feedback and conduct some quick surveys

My vision of Twitter-topia for Kayako is of a sound community of followers who we can communicate with and share ideas with. When we’re working on a feature, we’ll post about it. Hopefully you’ll take an interest and respond with your opinions. I’m really enthusiastic about new ways we can find our customers and keep in touch with them; this just might be one of them, and I hope it is successful.

Are you on Twitter already? Have your own thoughts about it? Let us know, leave a comment.
